Our biggest inspiration is looking to the past and referencing a time when Christmas was less about consumerism and more about family – a special time during the winter when we would all come together and celebrate. That seems to be lost in today’s culture; this guides us to create an experience more about the families and kids, and to build a tradition that they can return to every year. -Joseph & Shannon Hillenmeyer

Each November, Joseph and his wife, Shannon, transform the Lansdowne Shopping Center parking lot into a unique and historic holiday experience. They look to the past for inspiration, reminding customers of a time when Christmas was less about consumerism and more about family and friendship. Their interpretation of the holidays is roasting a marshmallow by their brick fireplace just around the corner from the shop’s front door, sharing a cup of cider as customers wait to visit with Santa Claus, or visiting the animals of the live nativity scene. They recreate a special time during winter when a community can come together and celebrate another season. Although that feeling can be lost in today’s culture, the shop re-imagines the experience for families and their children, building a tradition they can return to every year.
